Over the past few years, I’ve become picky about the cotton golf shirts I wear.
I’ve fallen for the comfort and breezy feeling of the new fabrics, but my first introduction to the golf polos by Martin Golf Apparel has restored my faith in the cotton shirt. Martin Golf shirts are made with 100 percent pima cotton. The longer length fiber is spun into a unique yarn and subjected to a refined singeing process. The company is proud that “we knit at a level more demanding than industry standards.”
The result is a comfortable shirt that feels more durable. I can just tell by holding them in my hand that they’ll last hundreds of washes, so they’ll be around awhile.
The latest summer offering are fresh styles and color palettes. I’ve got two hanging in my closet – a light blue Check Lisle shirt and a Cabo Stripe Lisle shirt that is purple with solid pink stripes and dotted white stripes. Wearing them is almost like a 4D experience because you can feel the detailed stitching in the stripes in the Cabo Stripe and the checkered stitching of the Check Lisle (it’s the undershirt pictured below). The look and feel is very traditional, something every golfer can appreciate. The company’s motto is “Timeless as the game.”
A minor word of caution, though: Martin Golf shirts tend to run big. I tend to wear mediums in all other brands, but the Martin mediums I own are roomier than most. Whether they shrink down to perfect size remains to be seen. So try one on before you purchase something.
